Romans (Summary)
Takeaways
Takeaways:
- There are two types of sin - sin the personal act (verb), and sin the state or kingdom (noun). It is important to know which word is being used because it makes a big difference to the interpretation of the Scriptures.
- Salvation is a three step process, made up of justification, sanctification, and the future glorification when a believer dies. Those who are justified will be sanctified, and those who are sanctified will be glorified. “Saved” could mean salvation or one part of the process of salvation (depending on the tense of the word).
- God is the source and the initiator of our salvation. It is He who predestines us, He who calls us, He who justifies us, He who sanctifies us, and He who glorifies us. Similarly, the Lord hardens the hearts of some so that His glory will be made more evident.
- We are saved (all three parts of salvation) by grace through faith, not of our own works. God is faithful even when we are faithless. Our only requirement is to continuously believe that Jesus is the Lord, that He died for our Sin (noun), and rose again. His death and ressurection free us from slavery to a Kingdom of Sin into slavery to His Kingdom of Righteousness.

Areas of Further Study:
- Romans 11:26 - “all Israel shall be saved.” is Paul referring to the physical nation of Israel, ethnic Israel, or to all believers together as Spiritual Israel?
