Galatians (Summary)
Takeaways
- The purpose of the law is to act as a spotlight to reveal our sin to us. It is important because we must know where we fall short before we can rely on Jesus to save us, acknowledging that we can not save ourselves.
- The law itself can not save us. To try to follow the law in an attempt to be justified is itself a sin, because it is looking at the sacrifice of Christ and considering it as not enough. It is by believing by faith in the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, as your Savior and for your Sin, that you will be saved.
- All believers are sons of Abraham but only those who understand grace and know that we are only saved by the death of Jesus Christ (not by anything we do or our ability to follow the law) will be saved and inherit the Kingdom of God - Paul calls them true Israel
- The flesh is the self and the Spirit is contrary to the flesh, meaning that to walk in the Spirit means you are not focusing on yourself. It is impossible to both walk in the Spirit and serve your flesh at the same time.
